This Everest Base Camp trek from cho-la pass itinerary is designed to fulfill the dream of the travelers who are looking for the wonderful adventure of Gokyo valley, kalapathar and base camp of the world’s highest mountain. Our specially designed itinerary of this trek ensures you a proper acclimatization en route and takes you up to this height of Everest base camp very smoothly. The trek to Gokyo Ri is less travelled than the more traditional Everest Base Camp Trek, but offers similar views and more solitiude along the trail.
The first few days of the Gokyo Ri, trek is the same as those of the Everest Base camp trek. Most trekkers fly into the Lukla airport where the trail winds through pine forests before a steep climb to Namche Bazaar and a more alpine type environment. Shortly after Namche, you veer off from the path to Tengboche and head through the villages of Dole, Machhermo, and eventually Gokyo. This is a strenuous trek leading to Gokyo Lake and over the Cho La Pass at 5330m leading into the Khumbu valley above Lobuje. The trail continues up to Kalapattar and then back to Lukla via Thengboche and Namche Bazaar.
Trekking in the Everest area is an awesome experience, not only for its proximity to the world’s highest mountain but also for its friendly Sherpa people, picturesque villages, great variety of cultures and traditions, colourful festivals and monasteries. The flora and fauna are other ornaments of the Sagarmatha National Park. The story of the yeti is still a mystery and the legend lives on in the Khumbu.
